for over 12 months thomas feriero aka avatism, our friend and label partner, has been staying at home and working on his album. he moved to berlin to work on it and now sadly (for us) yet (gladly) for him he is moving back to milan. poof! just like that. so what did this year entail exactly? well for some of us not much. we got to see him in his studio comfy pants a couple of times (he wears slippers) we heard his studio woes, ate pasta with him, drank beers and of course got to hear his album at every juncture. while this self-imposed exile may have been a little worrisome the result is fortunately spectacular. adamant is a glimpse into how a city shapes a life and how intrinsically life then shapes music.

daze maxim adds another episode to his practice of long-form explorations, on this his second release for lisbon’s assemble music. this time hes joined by a master in this field, baby ford, whose remixes over the past few years continue his own distinctive development of extended minimal house trips. dazes beginning an ending rides a skippy, loose beat for several minutes, the snares and hats gradually opening up as wordless vocalizations exclaim and interject with increasing regularity, the bass bumping contentedly underneath. pads join the equation for an intricate midsection – evoking memories of alcachofa-era happy experimentalism that nonetheless fit within daze maxims disciplined and dancefloor-oriented approach.peter ford recasts the original into his now unmistakable soundspace, where the push and pull between front-and-centre rhythmic components and evanescent background atmospherics creates that recognizable but undefinable sense of emotion, felt but unexplained. in ford’s world there isnt anything as simple as a beginning or an end, so the remix provides a valuable counterpoint to the original. given their now impressive track record, its no surprise that assemble music has pulled off another cohesive statement that works equally on the body and the mind.

*mort à vegas* (death in vegas in french…) is the new 12 inch e.p. by adrien viot aka av, one of the finest protagonist on the new frenchy but chic electronic pop scene. &#8232,,,av sings the nightlife, paid sex, alcohol over-consumption, desire under the neon lights, dark side of the american dream, driving a black cadillac drunk to death. this ep contains a dreamlike remix of *mort à vegas* by death in vegas (as the track was probably written with him in mind!) but also a cover of french singer dominique a, known in france for being the one who launched the new french scene that drove the renewal of the french pop. av has still this elegant crooner voice that slowly caresses you before driving you on the dancefloor, so let his deep voice and those melodic synths & guitars seduce you.
